Our groundbreaking Duckweed Protein Supplement Dispenser (DPSD) promises a more efficient, renewable way to keep astronauts healthy on long-duration missions, all while reducing the need for costly resupply flights.

Role Overview: WHAT YOU'LL DO

​

U.S. Citizen (required for ITAR compliance)

 

Education: Currently pursuing or holding a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.

 

Time Zone: Can work from anywhere within EST/MST/PST.

​

Technical Skills:

• Strong foundation in heat transfer, thermodynamics, convection, and fluid dynamics

• Familiarity with thermal regulation for biological payloads, closed-loop environmental systems, or lab-on-chip hardware is a plus

• Knowledge of spacecraft or high-reliability thermal management systems (e.g., radiators, heat pipes, insulation, or active cooling loops)

• Familiarity with thermal considerations for electronics, materials, and environmental control in space applications

Soft Skills:

• Strong problem-solving skills with a systems-thinking mindset

• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment

• Clear communication skills, both written and verbal, to explain technical tradeoffs and design choices

• Adaptability to a startup environment where learning and iteration happen quickly

 

WHAT WE OFFER

We are seeking highly motivated individuals to contribute to Duckweed Labs' cutting-edge research and development in space-based hydroponics and deployable aerospace systems. This is an unpaid position, but it offers invaluable hands-on experience in aerospace research and engineering.

 

• Hands-on Experience: Work on real-world aerospace projects, contributing to innovative hydroponic systems for space applications.

• Portfolio Development: Create original designs and research that can be showcased in your portfolio for future job or graduate school applications.

• Professional Skill-Building: Develop expertise in mechanical design, structural analysis, and deployable space systems.

• Industry Exposure: Collaborate with engineers, scientists, and aerospace professionals, gaining insight into space hardware development.

• Networking Opportunities: Connect with industry experts and mentors in space technology, CubeSat development, and sustainable space research.
